When I was driving once I saw this painted on a bridge: "I don't want the world, I just want your half"

20 minutes in and I’ve already learned a lot about why the heck Minneapolis has an elected Park Board and BET, recommended!

New episode out now! Big changes ahead for the composition of the Park Board, and real substantive policy ideas coming from the BET millcityhall.com/episodes/202...

City Question 1 / Administrative Citations seems like a *great* opportunity for us weirdos to contact our less-online family and friends to offer info and advice (vote Yes!)

I’ve never before been in a gay neighborhood soccer bar where everybody was chanting for an urban geographer, but I must say it’s a good time here at the @sustainstpaul.bsky.social fundraiser.

Last night’s fundraiser for @moreneighbors.org and @sustainstpaul.bsky.social was great - love to be in a room full of people who will lose their absolute shit for @blindeke.bsky.social

LA, DC, CHI… could Minneapolis be next? Our new episode posted TODAY explores questions raised by Trump’s attempted takeovers

What is the nature of this threat? How are politicians and regular people reacting? What should we be demanding from our local leaders, and what can we do ourselves?

My most naive and idealistic political opinion is you shouldn’t lie to people while you ask them for money

One of the best local podcasts, definitely worth listening too if you haven't tuned in yet.

NEW EPISODE: we've seen Mayor Frey go from "end homelessness" to crushing encampments and endorsing a position expanding incarceration for folks experiencing serious mental illness. It's 2025 and a Trump executive order takes the same position. How did we get here? millcityhall.com/episodes/202...

What I found is a Kneipp pool, named after Sebastian Kneipp a 19th century priest-turned-naturopath with a following in Germany and Slovenia. Kneipp developed a deep interest in water cures and such after contracting (and recovering from), wait for it, Tuberculosis! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sebasti...
Instructions for the Kneipp pool therapy - I don't understand enough Deutsch but I think it involves warming your body through exercise and alternating with floating in the cold water and letting yourself air-dry. Dogs are definitely not allowed

I discovered this odd little shallow pool on a hike/bike trail near Pullach, Germany and hey @johngreensbluesky.bsky.social I bet you'll *never* guess which horrible disease led to the construction of this and many similar pools in Germany
A short wooden fence surrounds a small pool and stone patio in what appears to be the middle of a forest. The pool would be about 2 feet deep if filled, but it's only got a few inches and the state of the water gives a general vibe of disuse and neglect

Good Morning! I dropped a big thread of little nonsense from Amsterdam, Brussels, and Munich yesterday while waiting for photos from my fancy camera to upload that you may enjoy

You can get photos of beautiful castles and art everywhere, but you can only get these LITTLE OBSERVATIONS OF NORTH-CENTRAL EUROPE right here (or on the other open-ish social network)

For example, this view of Move-In Day in Amsterdam
A moving van is parked in front of a prototypical tall and narrow 5-story 17th century building. Parked in front of the building is a motorized ladder-lift thing used to transport boxes up to the top floor

That's it for now! Time to crack open a nice can of hot dogs I got at the duty free shop
Large-ish (they’d be like 16oz cans in America) cans advertising “delicate softwurstl”, long tan-colored sausages that appear to be delicious enough to preserve forever in a tin can

The Bavarians are extremely proud of their alpine water, not least of which for being the first step in all that delicious Bier they make in München. Wandering around the bike/hiking trails along the Isar and you'll find all sorts of monuments and fountains with unlimited mountain-fed Trinkwasser
A stone monument adjacent to a gravel trail. Two statuettes are carved seemingly out of a craggy boulder and there’s a metal plaque that says Trinkwasser, indicating that the small water feature beneath the sculptures is safe to drink A two-tier fountain next to a bike trail that features a small stream of water falling down two rectangular stone troughs
