The joys of fieldwork in summer: cooling your feet in the water while searching for #thermal refuges for #salmonids 🐟!
Last week, we were on a data collection campaign on the Nivelle River (64, France) to create a thermal map and search for thermal refuges by using airborne thermal infrared #IRTa !

For those who are interested in #salmon & #FishSci =) 🐟 A big thanks to @jmprok.bsky.social 👍

I was always hoping there was a way to find the salmonid scientists on here easily. Now there is! Please comment to be added, it is (very) incomplete 🙏

Tagging is now complete in collaboration with Gestión Ambiental de Navarra, and the pre-smolts have been released into the #Bidasoa!
The HR3 #acoustic receivers were deployed in March, & everything is ready — now we just have to wait for the smolts to start their downstream #migration.

Our work w/ @inrae-ecobiop.bsky.social aims to estimate the probabilities that smolts enter the #hydropower intake canals & assess survival probabilities.

Time to deploy our #acoustic receivers HR3 from @innovasea.com in the Bidasoa before the downstream migration of #salmon for the Life project Kantauribai ! 💪🙏🙈🐟🇪🇺

[OPEN SCIENCE]
💡2 days ago, I had the opportunity to give a talk at the Festi'Val d'Azun, which offers conferences that promote #OpenScience.
🔍 1 day was dedicated to ‘#Water & the #Pyrenees’, during which I was able to give a talk on the conservation issues surrounding #Atlantic #Salmon 🐟 .

End of the first migration season
The 1st migration season ended about a month ago, SCIMABIO Interface went to retrieve all the acoustic receivers with all the data (phew!)
Before the results from a Bayesian model, some figures!

Understanding the impact of anthropogenic activities on biodiversity and wildlife is one of the most important questions today. This is notably one of the targeted questions addressed by the European project #LIFEprogramme #Kantauribai.

What a pleasure it was to be invited to give a seminar at the Tour du Valat to talk about the demography and migratory behavior of European glass eels. Always a pleasure to go there :) The Camargue, an ecosystem definitely very interesting to study the movement and colonization by eels! 🐟

We've signed a partnership agreement with INRAE & University of Pau (UMR ECOBIOP) to establish the Associated Partnership Laboratory MODMAF for the development & valorization of statistical models and tools for the assessment of #Demography & #Movements of #Fish 🐟. t.co/cULqpF8VPm

At SCIMABIO-Interface we design & install #RFID antennas, perform & are involved in projects to monitor #FishBehaviour & #Movements with PIT-tags or acoustic tags, use our knowledge in #DataAnalysis to facilitate the percolation of scientific knowledge towards fish managers.

Since September, I've embarked on a permanent position at SCIMABIO-Interface. Excited to apply #PopulationDynamics #BehaviouralEcology & #BayesianStatistics to engage w. managers & stakeholders. Science-Policy Interface is essential for effective #Fish #Conservation! 🐟

We used scale isotopes to understand trophic ecology of Atlantic salmon during first year at sea. Isotopes can also reflect migration routes, and it looked like routes of first-time migrants resembled those of older, previous spawners satellite tagged in earlier studies dx.doi.org/10.1002/ece3...

Hey #Acoustic and #freshwater #fish #telemetry community, I need your help ! =) Is it possible / OK to attach an acoustic receiver to a metal base rather than a concrete one ? It's for a monitoring in a river. Thanks for your feedbacks :) #trackingnotslacking 🐟
