New article on land use efficiency of renewable energy in Norway. Production density (GWh/km2) was highest for small hydropower and low for land-based wind. Storage hydropower needed to balance wind power at 0.2/1.0 TWh. Led by M.S. Kenawi with collaborators at NTNU and NINA. doi.org/10.1016/j.re...

I don't know of any size comparison, but have heard also from others who know pink salmon from the Pacific that they look like they have a higher condition factor here. They certainly look well fed also this year!

This year, traps will be installed in 63 Norwegian rivers to remove pink salmon before they are able to spawn. New publication assessing these extraordinary measures, based on experiences two years ago: reabic.net/journals/mbi/2025/2/MBI_2025_Thorstad_etal.pdf @ninanatureresearch.bsky.social

Do poor growth conditions at sea result in salmon returning to rivers to spawn at a younger or older age? New study shows that that rapid growth can lead to later maturation but maturation age can be influenced by shifts in growth during the marine migration link.springer.com/article/10.1... 🐟
