This was the first thing I made on famitracker, back in 2014. I still really like the composition, though what I actually ended up doing was making a 2a03 version of this and adding an extra section which I submitted to famicompo. might upload it but I don't think it was as good. #chipsky #chiptune

Made a new party today in Wizardry and went to grindng. Nearly caught up with my previous part now. But this one's all evil!

Before I retire for the night I decided to roll a new party. 6 new members, 6 new birds.
Well, actually 5, I never got to give Raven an actual test run through the game!
I am still amazed at the kanji they will let you use in this game lol

This was the encounter that did me in. I genuinely have no idea how I was supposed to beat this honestly
An encounter in Wizardry against 2 level 7 fighters, 2 men in robes (likely high level mages), 2 high priests and 1 high ninja. I surprised the monsters but that did not really help me out in the end.

Level 4 has quite thoroughly kicked my ass. I flew too close to the sun exploring the elavator section of the floor. I should've really known better when my mage died the first time and gone to grind some more...

The worst thing is I now need to come up with 6 new bird names lol

Well, to the extent I am willing to anyways
A more or less completed map of the third level of Wizardry 1. The map features a maze of intersections. Each intersection is either a sign with misleading directions, pits or spinners. There are rooms you can enter that let you avoid the hazards in the intersections but they generally trigger encounters (I generally do not mark guaranteed encounters unless they are of particular note)

What's with this analogue horror-ass monster art lmao
An encounter in wizardry against flies. As the monsters are unidentified they are drawn in a red shadowy manner that makes it harder for the player to tell what they are. An encounter in wizardry against grave mists. They have a wispy ghost-like look, somewhat reminiscent of The Scream (idk my art stuff lol that's the best you're getting here)

I'm slowly making my way through level 3 and am having a relatively easy time compared to the snes version... is the visibility of the pits and spinners a new addition for the Llylgamyn Saga?

Anyways I got caught out by this area lol, not the nicest thing to do, game...

Roaming around level 3, these fuckers scare the shit out of me every time. My previous experience with Wizardry 1 puts me on edge against these guys
An encounter with 5 kimonoed men The kimonoed men are revealed to be level 3 ninjas. At this point there are only 3 left but one of them has poisoned Emperor Penguin, one of my fighters in the front line. Here is the information about level 3 ninjas in the museum of monsters. It shows various information about them, including how many appear at a time, their HP, AC, what spells they know, how much damage they deal and more. The description at the bottom reads: They aren't genuine ninja either. But they are slightly more competent than the level 1 ninjas. Don't let your guard down unless you want to get your head cut off. Literal text of the description in Japanese: 彼らも正真正銘の忍者ではない。だが少なくともレベル１ニンジャよりは腕は確かだ。油断していれば首を切り落とされてしまうだろう。

I was reading through the Apple II manual for Wizardry last night and found this amusing little tidbit
An excerpt from the manual for Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord. The text reads: Alignment describes your character’s general ethical outlook. Good characters are really good. They go out of their way to help old ladies cross the street. Neutral characters take life as it comes. They would help an old lady cross the street if they were travelling in the same direction. Evil characters are not really evil when compared to some of the things they fight in the Maze. They are self-centered, and always want to know “what’s in it for them.” Evil characters help old ladies cross the street for a small fee. * Note: In the above, we are assuming the adventurer is male, as we may sometimes do in this guidebook. Wizardry is a non-sexist game, however, English is a sexist language.

Level 2 of Wizardry now mapped out, well as much as I could find anyway. Dumapic spell makes this a LOT easier, and I'm assuming not starting out with it is down to chance.
That said, the dark zone in the top left corner is frankly diabolical. And it feels like I've missed out on some secret doors

Gotta say, I think I've seen the light with mapping out dungeon crawlers manually. This rules!

The level 1 map in particular is excellent, I feel like outside of like, an adventure game Wizardry 1 seems to be a very good starting point to learning how to do it.

I like how in Wizardry, when leveling up your stats can go down.
Apparently in the DOS version there's a bug where your stats are much more likely to go down than they should, which is just absolutely incredible
