Bedshaped - Keane. On its own, the song is about a failing friendship, maybe chronic illness; with the video, it's a lot clearer and a lot more hard-hitting that it's about watching a friend *suffer* when you can't help them. Also look at that fucking stop-motion.

the whole "saying the quiet part out loud" thing is *exactly* what makes them basically immune to peaceful non-violent protest, because they don't need to be driven to violence, they're happy to default to it. Violence is part of their script.

But that's not what we're dealing with w/ the modern American fascist state. Violence as necessary enforcement is normalized. The only people dedicated to the lie of civility are Democrats, but Republicans are fully Wild-West "might makes right" dipshits and make no bones about it.

-influence in a wild and murderous part of the world. That's why Gandhi's tactics worked. It flipped the script of the "savages" vs. "the civilized white man" on its head. Same with MLK. The "white man's burden" of keeping The Blacks In Line was absolutely part of the lie.

It's also notable that Gandhi wasn't marching against Hitler. The British Empire was vile and horrific and awful in so many ways but the British Empire had an investment in *appearing* civil -- in the lie that they were spreading civility to the "savages", that they were a moderating and calming-

This does help, to some degree, but we've been doing it. Social media means that this has been done every day, in every way, and the people who would be radicalized by it have been.

This stage is long done with. The right-wing has been destroying empathy in its proponents for the last 2-3 decades for a REASON, and it's to make sure this DOESN'T work. Yes, this was tremendously successful with MLK and Gandhi. THEREFORE.
