I didn't get to stay and play, but I pulled Wan Shi Tong, Librarian and Secret Tunnel from my pre-release packs, so I'm pretty thrilled. Hoping to snag the Badgermole Cub soon, though.

I would say, though, that ATLA is UB done right. I'm looking forward to cracking some more boosters over the next month and seeing where the prices on some choice singles end up landing. If you have a chance to sign up for a pre-release event still, you should check out your LGS.

I have mixed feelings on Universes Beyond. They are what brought me into Magic two years ago after more than a decade out of active collection of *any* TCG. I understand the conflicts re: flavor and WOTC's insistence on publishing as many collaborations as possible in a single year.

Pre-release pack design: While I would have loved precon commander decks (that's my preferred format), I really like how they tied a character to each of the mana colors. It makes it easier for new players to grasp how a particular character from the show slots into the frame of Magic.

Mechanics: I need to play with the different bending styles more, but I like the feel of things so far.

Bonus sheets: I get what they wanted to go for, but they aren't... great, in terms of art. I know I'm hardly the first to say it.

Alice Wong’s legacy is the political horizon she helped articulate. A horizon where disabled knowledge is central, and care is a shared commitment. She taught us to name grief & rage without collapsing under them, to celebrate disabled brilliance without ignoring the material conditions shaping life

Totally understandable. I just spotted it on the shelf at my LCS and I was immediately sold. That was always one of my favorite crossovers.

Static Shock was my intro to the Milestone characters and Dwayne McDuffie's work. I'm thrilled to see that the legacy is continuing, as I picked up the new Batman/Static Beyond issue #1 this week.
