Mainstream palaeoart often seems lily-white in terms of the diversity of its contributors. But pieces of palaeoart that rank among the -MOST SEEN- works in the entire field were examples of black craftsmanship. This week came news on the passing of Garfield G. Minott (1966-2025)... cont

New #paleoart for #FossilFriday: the giant Meganeuropsis hawks Dunbaria in Early Permian Kansas, reaching to trap it with long, spiny legs. This image is set at the coast to reflect the marine occurrences of Meganeuropsis and Dunbaria fossils - not all Carbo-Permian insects lived in swamps! #sciart

New #paleoart on #FossilFriday: #Tiktaalik sees the world. Discussions of early #tetrapods often focus on limbs and lungs, but major changes also took place in their eyes. Seeing further and clearer than any animal before, they were the first to clearly see sunsets, stars, and the moon. #sciart

The Mesozoic mammal Sinodelphys, discovered in China and photographed at the Carnegie Museum, for #FossilFriday. Originally described as a marsupial but now thought to be an early placenta mammal, in my considered opinion this is clearly a creachure. 🧪⚒️

#fossilfriday Calcified cartilage is not always rare. 20 years ago I found this strange "bone", later identified as a mandibular cartilage of a skate (Raja binoculata). I have since collected dozens of these, which seem to be the most common vertebrate fossil in the 3-5 myo Purisima Formation of CA.

I forgot about this #paleoart of Deinocheirus I produced back in 2019 until this morning. Having not looked at it for years, I think it holds up pretty well. And no, it's not got the "feather mountain" look because D. was a big animal in a temperate climate.
