John (Homo sapiens) looking out for the little guy (H. floresiensis), maybe he can help our little museum too!

New POLITICO report: Trump admin is “exploring options to sell parts of the government’s $1.6T student loan portfolio to the private market.”

We're announcing our willingness to purchase the portfolio for its market value. We will then subsequently cancel the debt.

Can I just say I hate this system so much. I've wasted full days of work crafting tailored applications for things that went to internal hires and have even interviewed for posts that went to the internal hires. Just let places give that person job security and dont waste the time of 200 applicants
fossilsndcoffee.bsky.social
Ok, ill leave your comments up to warn others. I have had the rug pulled out from under me in similar situations several times
fossilsndcoffee.bsky.social
*shrug* could be, but so few places that are not nightmares to live in are hiring at all and I'm not a vertebrate worker so I may have missed earlier ads

This whole section really.
Finally: AI cannot do your job, but an AI salesman can 100% convince your boss to fire you and replace you with an AI that can't do your job, and when the bubble bursts, the money-hemorrhaging "foundation models" will be shut off and we'll lose the AI that can't do your job, and you will be long gone, retrained or retired or "discouraged" and out of the labor market, and no one will do your job.

Found some fun fossils on the beach the other day. These snails date back to the Ordovician period over 440 million years ago 🌿
The faint impression of a snail can be seen in this limestone rock lying on a shore. The clear impression of a snail can be seen inside a limestone rock lying amongst other limestone rocks on the shore in the sun.

Don't worry John(H. sapiens) those aren't sandworms, they are just bryozoans (PRI108377). Please make the #JohnOliverCoprolitasticShed a reality and #savePRI 🧪

Of all the people who have donated or raised awareness for similar causes, he seemed most likely to respond to internet nonsense. Help from anyone would be appreciated, it is a time sensitive situation. Also I was able to give him a shark plush with a note attached after a stand up show.

#fossilfriday The beautiful skull of the dwarf baleen whale Herpetocetus bramblei (Cetotheriidae) I discovered and excavated as an undergrad from the 5-6 myo Purisima Formation near Santa Cruz, California. Now in @ucmpberkeley.bsky.social collections!
A partial skull of a small baleen whale; it is about a meter long, light brown in color, with a long blowhole and a narrow, pyramidal braincase with high muscle attachment crests and a large eye socket. It's sitting on a white sheet with scale bars next to it.
