Most graves in Toowong Cemetery face East. As there are two graves per row, some face West to make the headstone easier to read / access. The Jewish graves face West.

Guided tours are free but donations are appreciated to help us continue our work.

Tours are on the first Sunday of each month (February to December) from 10:30am to 12:00.

There's no need to book, and there is plenty of parking available inside the cemetery.

These flowers are on the stone belonging to Captain Alfred Smith in Cupids, NL
A white marble gravestone in Cupids, Newfoundland and Labrador. There are carved flowers on the top portion of the monument. On the bottom the inscription reads:

In memory of
Capt Alfred Smith
Who died
July 22nd, 1888
Aged 80 years

There is an epitaph below this but it is difficult to make out clearly.

Isaac Jenner was a skilled painter of seascapes, known for his depictions of the English coast and historical scenes.

He donated his painting Cape Chudleigh, Labrador to the Queensland National Gallery in 1895, soon after its opening.

Isaac Jenner moved to Brisbane in 1883, where he taught art at the Brisbane Technical College. He helped found the Queensland Art Society in 1877 and exhibited locally.

In 1890 he moved his studio to Montrose Road, Taringa, where he lived and worked for the rest of his life.

Isaac Walter Jenner (1837-1902) was born in Brighton, Sussex, England.

Without a formal education, he worked on oyster boats and signed on for a voyage in Arctic waters. He joined the Royal Navy in 1855, serving in the Crimean War.

Isaac later became a self-taught marine and landscape painter.
