France Visa Free is a campaign group that would like every Briton to be free to visit France for up to 180 days in any year without the need for a visa.
Our goal is an arrangement that mirrors what every French citizen gains on visiting the UK.
Second or Third matters not . What matters is that support for change is there in France.

No one is claiming this will happen over night or quickly. The key point is that there is significant support in France for improved mobility

Actually not a handful but a majority in Le Sénat & Assemblee Nationale. Moreover, the proposal was for all Third Country Nationals not just British citizens . The proposal was reshaped to win wider support.

Thankfully, the Deputes & Senateurs who support the proposal have not abandoned the proposal debate continues .

The current interior minister has also confirmed that he is open to simplifying current visa processes recognising EU plans to digitalise the Schengen visa can apply to national visas . Such a change could take the visa nearer to visa waiver . This followed our campaign of lobbying French deputes.

A question that has been previously answered for you.

Yes that is true that the position of the French government that current visa rules apply. However, the proposal for automatic visas will be retabled when circumstances allow. Remember this was an amendment to Govt legalisation. Those that support change will continue to lobby for change.

The current mobility are unfair and not reciprocal . Others disagree. However, this not a punishment . It’s a consequence of Brexit and the failure of the Johnson Government to negotiate a comprehensive mobility deal. The Eu were willing to discuss visa waivers the UK were not.

I commend you for making the change you did , that was of your choosing to satisfy your life. Other lives and circumstances are different to yours . The fact remains people had lawfully developed a life in two countries and satisfied all obligations placed upon them.

The point it was claimed that the French did not want to make mobility changes and that was and is categorically false. The French do and did the change was in keeping with Schengen requirements and French values. The issue centred on the Berthet amendment being a legislative rider.

It is correct to say the French voted to change their visa law. The amendment to the Immigration Bill was however declared unconstitutional because it was not in keeping with the way laws are made in France. The proposed change came from the French and agreed by the French.

The Assemblee Nationale & Le Sénat both approved a change in the law to allow the Visa Long Séjour to be automatically granted to British and other third country nationals with a home in France.

Instead of targeting specific groups, recognise that Brexit has reduced the freedom to travel of all Britons. Negotiate a mobility deal that ends the 90 in 180 days problem for all Britons.

Quite. And if you emigrate permanently from one country to another every two months, at any point in time, which is your primary home?
November 18, 2025 at 5:54 PM
No we are not talking about immigration. We are not talking about people moving from one country to another !

There you have it a home is a home ! Thank you for the recognition!
November 18, 2025 at 8:46 AM
Indeed a home whether owned , rented, fixed or mobile is a home but we are not talking solely about immigration!

A comprehensive mobility agreement can be mutually beneficial. With a majority of the UK inward & outward visitor traffic with the Schengen zone there is much to be gained by both sides .

Indeed History shows the purpose of the EU & History also shows the value of friendship over division.

I see no gripe . I see openness and honesty …

That indeed is what those calling for change are seeking : a proactive U.K. govt that rebuilds trust & seeks discussions with the EU on mobility ; a discussion that need not be focused on one issue .Both sides can benefit from change!
