I think it’s at least interesting how many of the same people who bristle at eminent domain enthusiastically support megaprojects like nationwide high-speed rail. Not to say private manufacture is equivalent to public works, but I wonder how much the distinction matters to the displaced.

Few people as emotionally stunted as the "radically honest". The actual purpose of radical honesty is not to say the unsayable—which will always outrun us—but to discredit it; to declare the said's conquest of it, lest it guide our actions in ways that surprise us.

Sorry to lib out but I’m basically sympathetic to the democrats’ argument that they can’t get as much done because they abide political guardrails that trump ignores, and that this is worthwhile even (or especially) if trump destroys those guardrails.

Sort of a telling misread of the social dynamics at play here. The kids I knew in HS who most resembled these DOGE people were smart and politically engaged. They weren’t shoving nerds into lockers, they were running cross country and making “god emperor trump” memes with plausible deniability.
The worst people you went to high school with are now running our government. They're the people who cheated on tests, bullied the smaller kids, stole stuff from lockers and lied about other students behind their backs.
They grew up, stayed awful and became MAGA.
