Vielleicht liegt die Abwehrhaltung einiger Menschen gegen den Faschismusbegriff darin begründet, dass damit vieles einhergeht, was schlichtweg unbequem ist. Die Einsicht, dass die normalen Spielregeln außer Kraft gesetzt werden. Angst vor der Zukunft. Und vor allem die Notwendigkeit zu handeln.

ZEIT ONLINE: Sie sind einer der profiliertesten Faschismusforscher weltweit. Würden Sie aktuell von faschistischen Zuständen in den USA sprechen?
Stanley: Ja, natürlich. Welche Begriffe sollen wir denn sonst verwenden?
Faschismus ist nicht einfach ein Schimpfwort, sondern ein Konzept, das uns hilft, die Realität zu verstehen. Und was wir jetzt sehen - das ist

Der Historiker Samuel Moyn, ein Kollege von mir, hat kürzlich gesagt:
"Okay, das ist Faschismus." Der Politologe Cory Robin, einer meiner schärfsten Kritiker, hat in einem Interview zugegeben: "Ich war skeptisch, aber das sieht aus wie Faschismus." Was soll ich noch sagen?
