Spoon supply is critically low. Supply chain issues mean restocking is slow and intermittent. May have to close up shop for a bit. Not easy at this time of year.

Can I pay someone to develop a good open source instrument tuning app?

There's one old, unmaintained windows app that doesn't suck.
But it's old, unmaintained, and windows.

Everything else is enshittified, ad-ridden crap.

I have no idea what dev time on this would be, but I'm willing to throw […]

When the song of the angels is stilled,
when the star in the sky is gone,
when the kings and princes are home,
when the shepherds are back with their flocks, the work of Christmas begins:
to find the lost,
to heal the broken,
to feed the hungry,
to release the prisoner,
to rebuild the nations […]

Paging through an atlas (remember those?) my parents gave me years ago for Christmas (yes, I was that kind of kid). I love the relaxed, undirected exploration of perusing a good atlas.

Unrelated - I'm looking at flights to Leticia, Colombia.

This thing that 404 is writing about in the US—the dehumanizing fake content created purely because Facebook pays people to make it?

It has a direct precedent in the Myanmar genocide and has been widely […]

Happy holidays, fediverse!

I got you a megathrust earthquake, soil liquefaction, spine-tingling papers about the way our networks confound knowledge, and a PDF in a pear tree. It's my wrap on a year of trying to make sense of how we make sense of what's happening to us […]

@futurebird I have a work Alexa. I found calling it a human female name unsettling. If I knew enough to change its vocal tone, I would, but I don't. I changed its call name from "Alexa" to "computer." It refers to me as "Science Officer Spock".

I was hungry and you gave me food,
I was thirsty and you gave me drink,
I was a stranger and you welcomed me,
I was naked and you covered me,
I was sick and you visited me,
I was in prison and you came to me.

Human behavior.

Any contest between six year old boys on a basketball court will quickly devolve into "tackle-roller-basketball" within five minutes. There will follow shrieks of laughter, and you will know the contest is concluded when the crying starts three minutes after that.

We all say we want the street on the left, but the street on the right is the receipt for our online shopping habits.

You can't have Amazon convenience and Main Street charm. Corporate convenience shopping will cannibalize small businesses commerce.
