Monday morning. One hour late. My skull pulsed like it was keeping bad time. The notebook on the counter still smelled like last night’s whiskey and poor decisions. Half a poem sat there bleeding into the page. Something about rain, or remorse, or rent. I couldn’t tell which mattered more.

The coffee maker gurgled like it was laughing at me. Outside, the city was already awake, hissing and honking, pretending it knew what it was doing. I thought about sending a new poem out into the world... another little note in a bottle, but even the sea seemed hungover.
