The women in the thumbnail are Brenda and Maureen. They’re terrific. They’re middle-aged first-time skiers who spend the whole time laughing at themselves and being fun. There’s also a group of stereotypical poshos who are hard to endure. Luckily, it ends with most of them crashing into each other 😆

As the chaplain tells a long, dull anecdote, the posh man stares into the distance with all his facial features sagging with misery About 15 British skiers in various phases of crashing, falling, rolling over, and getting up. They’re dressed in old timey clothes for the 60th anniversary of their skiing club. I didn’t want to add more screenshots, but in the next scene it’s revealed that of the 30 entrants in this race, only 6 finished. It was won by a local Austrian man, and the British club members all look properly cheesed off about it, haha

The elephant sees two mice and stands up on its hind legs in terror. Its front legs or hands are bent in front of it in the classic “clutching one’s pearls” position. The head is in profile, and the one eye we see is huge, a little bigger than one of its feet. There are lines around it to show it shaking in fear. Its trunk is curved so the end is pointing up and there is a white space and little red triangles coming out of it to show that it’s trumpeting. It’s a really cool technique that looks kind of like confetti, and you immediately know that it’s trumpeting even though there is no sound effect in the picture

Slowly emerging back into life. Did some doodling a couple nights ago

Also I guess Hairy Arm is working with the Axis powers, but that’s kind of thrown in there in the last couple of pages. Eel and three other gangsters run towards four robots with spherical heads and gun barrels for noses. One of the robots shoots one of the gangsters and we see white motion lines indicating the bullet went in one temple and out the other. Caption: “Eel’s men rush to the armory just in time to intercept the oncoming robots! A battle ensues” Eel shouts, “Charge, men!” One gangster yells, “Wait’ll I get my mitts on ‘em!!” The one who’s shot through the head is somehow able to call out, “Oh! I’m shot!!” His tie is flying up, so you know it’s serious

I saw the water shutoff that day, but forgot where or what it was. I was outside, soaking wet. It was 20 degrees & snowing but I wasn’t cold. I was in shock, full of cortisol, so very strong, fast, & dumb

My whole life, when there’s an emergency or one of the kids is hurt or whatever, I go into triage. I dissociate, handle things in order of priority, and then freak out later when it’s safe. When the water shot out, my brain turned to mush and I couldn’t think

The world’s awful, I’ve been overwhelmed renovating the house, and we had back-to-back funerals. Then an extended family member killed himself. Then my amateur plumbing flooded half the house, so I spent this week on insurance, etc

Mike Patton and Patton Oswalt both turn some age today. Besides being all-time greats, they’re obsessive culturevores whose interviews have introduced me to tons of amazing stuff over the years. To celebrate, here’s an “if they mated” of their son Mike Patton Oswalt in my signature Kinda Okay style
