That being said, the most iconic textures from E1 / Start.bsp are brown metal, brown bricks, brown bricks again, tan bricks, and brown rock so I can see how folks got the idea lmao

That's a misconception tbh. I don't think there's much more brown in the Q1 palette vs any other retro fps palette.

It's kinda nuts that the Hollow Knight folks had so many years to evaluate their game design and they still didn't remove the out-of-place Souls bloodstain mechanic.
If I could delete one mechanic from existence it would be that. It's been plaguing indie games since 2011.

For reference, left was the OG, and right was the original redesign leak. I'm glad they didn't overshoot on the redesign. She's closer to fan interpretation, but not super perfect / chungus-y.
