Yep... 😐
I used to read books about life in the Soviet Union and marvel at the ways normal folks communicated in the face of totalitarian oppression. Today I scroll through federal bureaucrats using code words and carefully placed asterisks on Reddit and I’m like, ah shit.

So when all was said and done, the only country that opened it's prisons and sent crazy murderous criminals to prey upon innocent American citizens, was us.

@oregonian.com Why did Oregon not join the lawsuit to stop Trump's executive order regarding birthright citizenship?

So if, as claimed by this poll, Trump supporters don't by and large support his policies, why the hell did they vote for him?

Do US adults support Trump's agenda? Here's what an AP-NORC poll shows
A poll finds that despite Donald Trump's claims of an “unprecedented and powerful mandate,” the incoming Republican president lacks broad support for some of his top priorities.

"Ideology is not enough. If the Environmental Protection Agency, for example, has previously adopted an environmental regulation based on … evidence, it cannot simply change its mind and get rid of the regulation when a new president takes office."
Opinion | ‘Administrative Law’ May Be Key in Trump’s Second Term
Sidney Shapiro writes about administrative law, which ensures action of government agencies, and how it may be used during Trump’s second term.

Justice Clarence Thomas failed to disclose two additional trips from a billionaire patron, Senate Democrats revealed on Saturday after conducting a 20-month investigation into ethics practices at the Supreme Court.

Interesting... And consistent with the "my feelings are just as valid as your data" era we're living in these days.
For 32 years, the National Retail Federation has produced the "National Retail Security Survey." The survey attempts to estimate the total retail "shrink" in the industry by collecting data from major retailers.

But this year, the NRF announced it would not release its annual survey.
Lies, damn lies, and shoplifting statistics

Not good....
This is a great post and addresses one of the most important threats of Trump 2.0.

I still put weaponization of DoJ and mass deportation ahead, but just barely so.
New, from me: Trump and his Secretary of Defense are proposing a purge of military officers. To understand what this means, I talked to military experts and looked at Trump's accusations of "woke Generals."

Bottom line: The purge represents a huge democratic risk.🧵

New York Attorney General Letitia James says she will NOT drop the civil fraud case against Trump as she waits for the appeals court decision — arguing presidents are not immune from civil litigation.

James' office says the matter "does not in any way affect Trump's ability to serve as president."

Interesting....
The US Border Patrol's budget has grown 7x and agents numbers 4x in the past 30 years, more and more migrants are stopped, and yet more and more migrants keep coming. A scholar's interviews with migrants explain why enforcement isn't working: https://buff.ly/49t3vaw (Katrina Burgess, Tufts)
Trump’s plans for tougher border enforcement won’t necessarily stop migrants from coming to US − but their journeys could become more costly and dangerous
Fluctuating rates of illegal migration to the US over the past few decades show that the government’s approach of trying to stop migrants with more security has not worked.

December 8, 2024 at 4:04 PM
It's not about the money to DOGE, it's about not wanting to spend the money on "them". They simply reallocate the 1% budget expense elsewhere.... like government contracts for SpaceX.
