not that i take fault in people pursuing realism in digital media, but as realism becomes more real & infallible (speaking globally: computer graphics, sampled instruments, voice synthesis, "intelligence"), it's the impressionistic and blatantly artificial that speaks more to me as an artist

Innovation in the tech scene feels low because it has been captured by financialization instead of creativity. It treats imagination as delusion, dreams as not monetizable. Our technical environment has been reduced to an extensive-form gacha game.

Bought a broken Sony MDS-NT1 NetMD #minidisc drive recently with simply "it makes a buzzing noise when you plug it in." Turns out the ejection drive belt had wrapped itself around the motor and turned into goo. Works great with just a little disassembly and belt replacement.

there's a better reaction to envy than anger: asking yourself what the delta is between what you have and what you wish you did, and then analyzing where you messed up and running in that direction instead.
