I write luminous science fiction and fantasy. When not writing, I watch birds, admire lichens, and play the accordion. In my writing I like to explore the boundaries of time, monsters and myth, and the concept of cats.

Working from home today (a rare treat) and heard Sandhill Cranes outside my window. Rushed to look and sure enough a flock of them was circling above the park next door (a rare treat).

Incredible!!

Imagine the birds I could see if I worked from home every day. Pitching this to my boss right now.

A great weekend of support, and only 70 hours left to reach our goal! Let’s visit together the stories of garden planets, sorrow caverns, carnivorous malls, jungle cathedrals, endless basements, whispering tundras, fungus skyscrapers. kck.st/4mIkEm1

I haven’t picked that one up yet but now I’ll have to!

And then reading Dessine-moi un loup by Jacques Fortier during the seven hour Heathrow layover to really solidify French-language brain. So I can talk to my family! About poetry and mysteries and nothing else I guess!

I wish I was the kind of bilingual where I could flip seamlessly from English to French but I do have to fully shut down English-language brain and reboot French brain. So I’m easing in with Calixto, which wonderfully has the original French poem on one page and the English translation on the other

That’s so cool! What a fun secret detail!

I’m packing the books I hope to read on a trip and in removing the dust jackets so they don’t get crinkled in my luggage I discovered that Calixto published by @aanpress.bsky.social has a cute little debossed dipper constellation on the cover underneath the jacket! I might never have known!
The dust jacket for the book Calixto. A constellation forming a bear outline is the main focus of the cover A hard book cover that is all black and has a dipper constellation embossed into it.

I’m reading “The Romance of William and the Werewolf” translated by Michael Smith (from my shelves) and “Silk: A World History” by Aarathi Prasad (from the library). So like total balance on the owned book backlog to library checkouts.

What are you reading?

I think I’ve gotta extent the rule to “read 2 books already in my apartment and then I can check out 1 library book” otherwise I will never get anywhere
