The bad voices fro women may be all part of a sales ploy - I wound up returning the audiobook to the library and just ordering a physical copy

I loved your intro! Thank you for such a fun read

I thought the anthology also did a good job of pointing to the way colonialism and paleontology are entwined.

Also thrilled that while I have already read a lot of the books in the footnotes, there were some paleontological works I haven't encountered so far. More things to read!

I really loved the array of works presented, poetry and short fiction, and the introduction was so interesting. Incredible to learn how many women writing under pseudonyms of men's names were interested in themes of the prehistoric.

Creatures of Another Age was fantastic! Foreseeing this being one of my favorite reads of the year. @valancourtbooks.bsky.social themed anthologies are always so great - I loved this just as much as Terrifying Transformations: An Anthology of Victorian Werewolf Fiction that I read a few years ago

"Two Hearts Make a Half, or, Ghosts of a Rodeo Clown" by Eric J. Guignard was my favorite story in the anthology. Extremely good world-building, innovative take on were-transformations, and extremely fun animal choices for the were-creatures; loved the use of a herbivore, still a dangerous force.

Were Tales was overall fun. I picked it up for my annual January werewolf read, which was a bit of a misalignment as werewolves are few and far between in this anthology, but the range of were-creatures present was very inventive.

The Willows was absolutely gripping. I don't think I've ever read anything where plants cause such menace and fright, even among all the climate-fiction I read. Ending kind of fizzled out, but this is a feeling I have for most horror works of the period, so maybe it's a me problem.

I really dislike del Toro's vision of Frankenstein. I thought it was shallow + missed the points of the original. But in particular - its fucking wild that Agatha, Justine, and Saffi are wholly absent from del Toro's vision AND Mia Goth plays Woman; both mother and love interest. What the fuck man.

Frankenstein was great, of course. This was one my every-few-tears re-reads. I had forgotten a few things in the time since last reading (maybe 5 years ago?). Such as Justine and Agata existing. Justine's death really struck me this time, "new" as it was.

I thought I had, and just went to check and missed a release last year! 😱So I'm one behind

"Lone Wolves" by @annapele.eu in XRAY Literary Magazine. The loneliness of the holiday season and adulthood taken to the extreme and spiced up with a little Christmas magic from Santa himself. I like the mixture of mournfulness and desire happening in this story.

"Final Log Fragment Retrieved from the Derelict Hauler MV Ironside" by D. Thomas Minton @flashpointsf.bsky.social
I love a horror story told via a found document, love textual breakdown in the face of the unknown, and love horror that leaves a mystery. Great piece!
