When I had my hysterectomy, I was told recovery would be quick because I was young, fit & otherwise healthy.

They were wrong. The surgeon made an error and despite signs of post op bleeding, discharged me & went on vacation.

When I returned to the ER, I was ignored & gaslit 🧵

Breaking my rules on Substack for this one. Tania speaks directly to that most stubborn group of people: the ones that outright refuse to engage with their vulnerable friends when we talk about masks.

Excuses and subject changes. My friends know long COVID destroyed me. Do they care? Ehhh?

Public health is in tatters in the United States. Covid mitigation is in tatters around the world. H5N1 is spreading rapidly & the U.S. are dealing with tuberculosis & measles outbreaks.

You are not powerless. Things are bad… but a respirator can prevent ALL airborne diseases

If you can’t handle the social discomfort or personal inconvenience of wearing an n95 to protect disability communities, you won’t be able to handle the discomfort and risk of actual “resistance” work.

Expand your capacity for discomfort to expand your capacity to liberate.

And wear a damn mask:

New here? Struggling with Long Covid or think you might have Long Covid?

I’ve written a series of guides about two of the most common and difficult to diagnose comorbids: POTS and MCAS.

If you’re newly diagnosed or undiagnosed, if you’ve been told it’s “all in your head”… read on! 🧵

Covid depletes cells that are key to the immune system and getting covid regularly means you'll be sick more often and this will not strengthen your immune system it will progressively weaken it and you'll end up dying younger. You were lied to because you had to get back to work

I can’t stress this strongly enough - wear a mask. Get the best respirator you can afford that fits your face and wear it consistently & properly.

Covid is a pre-existing condition for many insurers. You do NOT want Long Covid.

If you’re fortunate enough to still have your health - protect it.

Just catching up on the trend of white women wearing blue bracelets to show they didn’t vote Trump…

Can you guys wear a mask? That’s a much more effective sign of solidarity.

Boost & donate to mutual aid requests, amplify marginalized voices, help ORGANIZE.

Your bracelet doesn’t accomplish this

Before my disabilities became severe - I took classes in foraging, fermenting and gardening. I desperately wanted to grow my own food.

It’s HARD work. Completely out of reach for me with my chronic illnesses.

Also - land costs money. I live in a 500sq foot box.

Just putting things in perspective.
People saying that you need to garden, that your back yard garden will allow you to be self-sustaining and even feed other people, that you can do a full time job while having this self-sustaining garden, that you can do this gardening while disabled:

Wildly fucking unhinged. Cartoon fantasy shit.

Lots of people making heartfelt posts about how we have to work together and be a community and protect each other but can't even be bothered to wear a mask or care about disabled people.

I agree that community care is important, but that means EVERYONE in your community, yo.

A simple and powerful act of resistance is to PUT ON A MASK.

Many leftists couldn’t wait to abandon COVID mitigations and policies - tossing people like my to the wayside and making society completely unsafe.

We already have mask bans in the U.S. Normalize community care now!
