I have a new paper out in @wepsocial.bsky.social: www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....
The paper situates discussions about the Educational Cleavage in a longer temporal context (back to the Medieval time) to show that there have ALWAYS been conflicts between educational groups. (1/3)

3/ @garritzmannj.bsky.social analyzes the past, present & future of educational conflict, arguing the uniqueness of today’s divide is the breadth of the groups it sets in conflict, its links to group identities, and its spillover into almost all political conflicts.

@dpzollinger.bsky.social and I are thrilled "Cleavage Politics in Western Democracies" is out as an SI at @wepsocial.bsky.social!

Its papers explore the foundations of the cleavage pitting new left against radical right parties, and how it compares to the classic cleavages of Lipset & Rokkan:

Hi bsky people - if you care about how the EU seeks to fund all things "social-ecological transformation", which institutional architecture has emerged out of it, and why it is both contested and an unrealized promise: please have a look at our special issue on the politics of sustainable finance 👇

👉 New comment out 👀

Garritzmann, Häusermann and Palier argue that the key problem of the ongoing debate is that scholars and politicians refer to social investment as if it was one single type of policy, whereas there are quite different variants of this paradigm.

🚨 New paper in @thejop.bsky.social

Why do politicians often misperceive what citizens' policy positions are?

@simonotjes.bsky.social and I study ~10,000 estimates of public opinion by politicians in Denmark & the Netherlands to uncover the sources of these (mis)perceptions

"Social investments, in contrast, are usually still treated as one big box and as one supposedly coherent policy approach, which defies the complexity of reality and renders discussions unproductive"
garritzmannj.bsky.social
here's the 30-second version: There's 9 types of social investment - each has their own political dynamics, different normative underpinnings, & different consequences.

By talking about social investment in the singular we risk comparing 🍎 and 🍊!
