IT'S POSSIBLE to have Democracy without a Republic, or a Republic without much representative Democracy - as Putin/Trump/GOP intend. But, USA has always been specifically founded as a "Free Liberal Secular Constitutional Democratic Republic" - which accurately conveys the intent of our Constitution.
