what really gets me is that all violence is political violence and when powerful people say “political violence” what they mean is “violence that might include me” and you know this because they’re only talking about one of today’s shootings.

linux development is great but every once in a while I get a problem that's arcane "what is actually installed and how" that has me googling and retyping things 20 different times till I find the actual solution half a day later. Still fun though.

Setup my discord bot to be a service on my pi, now it'll restart without me needing to check it

Long term plan, once i get a couple different projects done I'm going to start doing research on IRC implementation.

I think a bad project initializer just borked the repo somehow, but now it's done and I'm onto... adding thyme leaf and possibly other stuff for data visualization... joy

I spent a week with dental headaches trying to figure out how to get a simple java api with spring working (backed bysqlite) and just... repeatedly failing and giving myself worse headaches. Then I restarted yesterday and got it done in an hour.

The power of scrap everything try again should not be underestimated in programming

But uh, there are alot of asses involved and alot of risk the hype gang is trying to force on people. plus sweeping all these ethical concerns under the rug is pretty bad.

That said how someone reacts to the use of LLM's is a good way to understand them better (not in a negative way). Someone resisting the use isn't a luddite, they value reliability and consistency. Someone jumping on the tech isn't bad either unless they force others to.

You're a shop that only makes crud apps? Cool, clock out early because you'll need it when all the support tickets come in. But for most people programming is still a rich and involved problem solving adventure and LLM's are at best another tool. Some people still don't use neovim so calm down!

Even the people hyping how productive it theoretically could be dont really appreciate that their company cannot effectively sell 10x the product, or that even if it gets there, 10x isn't strictly useful.

I think I've come to the conclusion that AI hype is much ado about not much. It's probably not going to hurt things (other than right now) much and the best case scenario is a gradual adoption by a subset sort of like node or python.

ah yes, let me commit the start of this project now that I have it there... oh, i didn't set a repo? I swear I did what the heck?

Fixed selenium in my wsl setup. I suspected the problem was the manager just didn't work for linux and... I was right. You just build your own service, set the executable_path and then pass that into the driver when creating it. THANK GOD.

Linux: cannot mount
Me: what?
Linux: nothing, sorry

Today is c memory management review and selenium embedded in my wsl fixing. I'm honestly going to try and flash a surface pro later to Linux also so... busy day.

Every day I get closer to jumping into Linux and finding out if I can actually game reasonably in it. It's better for nearly everything else I do and it's not Microsoft's BS.

Took a break from coding to rest after getting a headache multiple days in a row. I think I'm subconsciously clenching my teeth when dealing with this problem so that plus dental work is giving me migraines. I'll be sure to figure out this sqlite dialect problem Monday though.
May 18, 2025 at 7:27 PM
Trying to make sqlite work with my ORM is actively giving me a headache. If spring complains one more time that it's missing a dialect I'm providing...
