Yep. Here in Jozi we all have year-round 'allergies'.
Air pollution cost South Africa more than R960bn and 42,000 lives in 2023, a new report finds, but the government keeps extending emissions exemptions.

Today I found a local chemistry supplier who sells silver nitrate (AR grade) at half the price of the supplier I formerly used. Same grade. This is a huge saving for me as I live and work in a so-called 'developing economy'.

Having just been to Herculaneum (was there in 2016)I can attest to overtourism making even the lesser known sites unpleasantly busy. My own observation is that at least 50% of people at such sites are bored shitless and have no real interest in being there.

They're still impaling people at the Colosseum?

Stupid tourist.

One of my favourites is the couple, who in 1844 were caught having sex in the Bridgend Workhouse kitchens.

When discovered, they pretended that it didn't happen and that they were looking at something on the wall.

I'm not certain if I'll ever love a mirrorless camera. I'm getting used to it, but I'm not enamoured. An optical viewfinder is always on, and I do miss that.

It's not an easy read and sometimes extraordinarily frustrating. Hard to keep track of all the players, and often annoying that there aren't more illustrations of Caravaggio's works as Robb's descriptions are so evocative.

Mmm. Goodness gracious me. Did they miss the memo? Also, isn't there a whole field of econs that try to predict outcomes of such policies? Did they miss that meeting as well? Scheduling conflict?
J.P. Morgan econs on Trump’s latest are “increasingly concerned that the policy mix may tilt into an unintentionally far less business-friendly stance. The sustained 25% tariff on Canada and Mexico set to start this weekend is materially different than the tariff increases built into our baseline.”

I think I have to mute a couple of words. It's fucked up that only American citizens get to vote but the rest of the world has to deal with their choices.

Great thread.
I am a former incarcerated firefighter. I served in a California fire camp from 2009 to 2012.

Misinformation is afire on the internet, so here are facts about the prison firefighter program, all in one place.

A thread.
