Trump has fiscal munchausen syndrome. Tear up all his trade relations so countries have to pay attention to him. What will be next? Nuclear threats?

Just for perspective, before Trump started the trade war China's tariffs were on average 5% higher than the US (8% vs 3%).
Today it is China 85% vs US 105%
So when you hear "China had unfair tariffs!" think 5%

By stalling the world economy including manufacturing and vehicle production Trump becomes the biggest individual contributor to reducing climate emissions since Nakamura invented the blue LED 🤣🤣

james surowiecki has discovered where the completely fabricated trump tariff rate has come from for each country

"...for every country, they just took our trade deficit with that country and divided it by the country's exports to us."

The Corporatist Revolution has begun in American. The scary question is whether Trump is Stalin or whether he's only Lenin and Stalin is yet to come

I'm saying this as somebody who's been at a lot of protests in NZ: if violence starts, it is *always* Destiny Church. Consistently. The only times I've been assaulted are by Destiny Church members. They are not a church, they are a violent hate group and people need to wake up to it.

Trump's playbook is brilliant and almost unassailable - "I am all powerful, intelligent, all seeing, wise and I am also a victim of the pathetic left, the courts, politics". He is fuelled by inherent contradiction and the absence of both logic and compassion

the One True Lesson you learn from talking to policy makers is that most folks vastly over-estimate the importance of grand masterplans in changing world, and underestimate the role of improvisation, misunderstandings, office politics, blunders and unexpected discoveries in actually shaping outcomes
⬇️⬇️⬇️ This this this. In my case I’m tired of strategic geniuses telling me that tariffs are just a cunning smokescreen for Elon Musk seizing control of the federal payments system.

They’re two crazy things going on simultaneously, run by different people.
The most annoying fucking people right now are the ones who constantly tell others that something they care about which is currently happening is just a “distraction” that they are “falling for” because we apparently aren’t as smart as they are at figuring out the 4-D chess game.

Canadian MP Charlie Angus: He choked.

The market started to tank, and suddenly, he said, “Oh, didn’t you guys already have a plan to deal with the border back in December? I love that—I’ll take that.”

This is Mr. Art of the Deal.

As someone who speaks “far right wingnut,” I feel obligated to point out that the creation of the federal income tax in 1913 has been an obsession with such folks since the1950s. They mark it as the moment America went off track and started careening toward socialism, and they want to get rid of it.

Trump's tariffs suppressing demand, stifling trade and reducing consumption could be the greatest climate change initiative of any government #unintendedconsequences

Corporate sovereignty is the seemingly inevitable progression in Western politics. Government as a business, not a civil service, and us as consumers, not citizens
The corporate coup is global.

Trump's mad tariffs do not mark the end of neoliberalism or free trade or whatever you want to call it.

They mark the end game of what we have been fighting for decades: corporate rule.

They do not believe in the public. They believe in their wealth.

Manhattan wouldn’t give it to him, so he went to Silicon Valley.
