Well, let's try this out lol

I'm developing a game (very close to get out of Early Access!)

It combines VR and "flat" gameplay; full horror for the VR player, hunted by the PC player(s). It has giant alien Mandrills!

You can get it on Steam at steam.pm/app/1936360

After fostering kittens and adopting the mom I am left with a lot more vet bills than I anticipated (Sadie has had some health issues after giving birth, and my older cats have had their own issues too). I am currently unemployed and counting on commissions to cover costs.Shares will be appreciated!

A curse from a sorcerer was identified that affects games and applications built on Unity versions 2017.1 and later for Android, Windows, Linux, and macOS operating systems.

*breaking, well you get it lol

Also, it's gonna be interesting seeing how this affects unity-made cellphone games which are apparently the ones that'd be more vulnerable to this thing

In all fairness, looks like I was able to update the project without anything visibly braking... knocking on wood here. I'm also lucky to be on 2019.1 which is apparently the earliest editor version they did a full patch for
germanban.bsky.social
They seem to have patched all versions from 2019.1 (exactly the one I'm in for my recently released game, so I'm lucky I guess -otherwise I'd need to use their patcher)

Ironically, this doesn't affect people who are on versions older than 2017, so not upgrading paid off for them lol

Updating the Unity editor for a 5+ year old project is always such a fun, stress-free activity, glad to have an excuse to do it again

The goal of the Modern Video Game isn't just not trying to be Art. It's to be the exact opposite of Art. It's to depersonalize / derealize the player. To put them in a trance and subsume them into profitable layered action-response cadences, that they immediately forget, but immediately crave again.

I feel like more creatives should be giving pushback to their audiences especially when they act like little sociopaths that the work they’re choosing to partake in isn’t 100% what they want like the creator owes them that

Wait, what has happened? Last news I got was that wmr devices got officially bricked, then un-officially unbricked by that single-dev driver thing, what is Valve doing now? (can't find anything about it)

First time seeing it! I have to say I sure like "asymmetric VR" being the first thing on these tabs, for no particular reason at all 🤐
germanban.bsky.social
Sometimes I get pretty cinematic shots in Escape from Mandrillia (btw, just got out of Early Access, wink wink) like this infected Mandrillian bursting in a cloud of insectoid parasites right in front of that dramatically lit room
germanban.bsky.social
This game still has some of the most beautiful scenery I've seen in VR, I still demo VR to people by showing them the last hub or the bonus stages with the waterfalls

Escape From Mandrillia is a local asymmetric VR+PC game where a VR player escapes alien monkeys while PC players assist as drones or hunt as Mandrillians, with deep customization options.

Nice!

With Crumb I've always been surprised by his serious stuff like the one about Kafka's life and the straight-up full adaptation of Genesis

Another I always recommend is Alberto Breccias' PERRAMUS (who also did a tiny adaptation of the OG eternaut)
Page of PERRAMUS by Alberto Breccia - a big billboard showing two skull-like faces (one dressed as an army general, the other as a businessman with a bowler hat) with the slogan YOU DECIDE - YES OR YES (THE SAME IS BETTER THAN THE WORST)

any preferred genre? I quite like the blacksad comics

Again, when I started I wouldn't have believed the dev of one of the OG VR/PC asym games that inspired me to try gamedev would as much as look at my silly monkey game

Thank you so much, and hyped to see what you and the team have in store!

Me realizing all of today's recordings for the 1.0 release trailer are on the wrong bitrate and look like crappy crusty bodycam footage

Ah well. We'll get em next time
Meme of Carl from Aqua Teen Hunger Force superimposed into a galaxy with the words "It don't matter... None 'a this matters..."

Erm, it's clearly a Seat Ibiza? 🤓 (sorry, can't help my spanish ass from pointing that out)

con esto puedes meter unos overclocks brutales

This is the kind of thing that made me fall in love with VR and the VR scene back in the day

If you only take the big names as your inspiration you will inevitably be disappointed. There is no career path in games that involves only making big-time successes. Please find inspiration from making work you enjoy and, ideally, uplifting those who DON'T get attention. Many people could use it

I've always been surprised nobody tried the full-on asymmetric "desktop DM" concept, even as a prototype. There's Operation Armstrong for the opposite "man in the van" approach, but I'd like to see a version where PC side is actively hindering the VR "party" progress
