Looking over the federal budget because I’m thinking of planning a lesson on it…and there is a fun tidbit about “working with CBC/Radio Canada to explore participation in Eurovision”.

Amazing.

I have used articles from Teen Vogue in my classes because the articles were relevant, relatable, and progressive. Without diverse voices, I can’t see this magazine being meaningful to anyone. How disappointing.
I was laid off from Teen Vogue this week, alongside multiple other phenomenal team members.

At our Summit, I was asked how it felt to be 1 of 2 Black women left and what that meant for representation. Now, there are no Black women at Teen Vogue and that is incredibly painful to think about.

I logged into my LinkedIn account to turn off permission for my data to be used to train AI, but then realised how fake and gross it is so just deleted my account instead.

Why does the GTA have a special highway for rich people, just north of the highway where it takes regular people an hour or more to get across the city?

(No shade on people who take the 407. I get it.)

Toronto’s housing affordability crisis is not a supply and demand problem. It’s a greed problem - units built based on speculation and profit and not as actual homes.

You can’t fix capitalism with more capitalism.

I just want to live somewhere where people care about other people. I guess Ontario under Doug Ford is not that kind of place anymore.
October 24, 2025 at 9:51 PM
Aaaand they are doing the exact opposite.
At a minimum, Ontario needs to get rid of the “post-2018” loophole for rent control, and have online reporting and tracking for landlords/companies that don’t follow the rules for tenant applications.

@cbcnews.ca Madleen boarded and innocent civilians abducted.
Why are you not covering this?

All Eyes on Gaza.
Greta Thunberg and other human rights defenders have been kidnapped by Israel on international waters. The aid they were delivering to Gaza that includes baby formula & medical supplies has been stolen. The ship Madleen was attacked with drones & will be forced to port at Ashdod Port. #3E #FreeGaza

In the face of a strong misinformation campaign against transit-only lanes, we need your strong voice of support evidence-based transit-only lanes that will build a greener, fairer, and inclusive Toronto.

I am reading The Anxious Generation for a work book club and being increasingly infuriated by the confidence with which this man makes claims he has no evidence for. Some of it makes intuitive sense which I guess is why it’s popular, but where is the research?

Why can’t Toronto have nice things?
A major Astroturf effort is underway to fight the bus priority lanes on Bathurst and Dufferin Street in Toronto.

The Bathurst website was registered by the CMO of grocer Summerhill Market, which has a location on Bathurst.

"Canadians" feeling smug & and self-righteous in this moment should remember that right-wing fascism is alive & well in this country. Neo-liberalism is the crisis & breeds supremacist ideology, exploitation & wealth hoarding. Just because it's not Trump/PP doesn't make us more "progressive."

also, “yield” does not mean “blow through the intersection without checking if someone is coming,” it means, “slow down, check, and if someone with the right of way is coming, YIELD to them, including coming to a complete stop.”
"Cyclists are always running stop signs!" Yes they make no sense for us, legalize treating them as yields

And here I thought I was the only person who still uses taxis instead of apps!
City of Toronto is moving away from US ride hailing apps & using local cabs. (A @graphicmatt.com gets action moment!)
my new argument against uber with everything going on is simply going to be “why are you giving your money to a US multinational when you could be using a local taxi service?”

ICYMI I wrote out why the Sunshine list is good & a rare window into income & class. If it can't be expanded or the threshold lowered, we should keep it as is. It's helped reveal "inequities in hiring practices, promotion and compensation" & is hard date in the haze of class (un)consciousness.

I’m catching up on the leaders’ launch speeches today, starting with Poilievre’s, and one big thing I’ve noticed:

His emotional appeals are generally towards low-income folks (single mothers, struggling seniors) but his ACTUAL policy promises are almost all for industry.
