This is going around again and it is not true. Like every site on the internet, Bluesky uses machine learning to do a first-pass approximation of image classification to detect and label content. They have repeatedly confirmed outside services do not use Bluesky user data to train their models.

Agreed—I’m not a trust and safety expert, it’s not my domain; but my understanding that any site that needs content moderation at scale relies on machine learning tooling like this. The job, which is already difficult, is borderline impossible otherwise

Just chiming in to say I agree with the others in this thread—it’s an issue of trust, and what the contract looks like. If they say they don’t use submitted images for modeling training, it’s whether or not you trust them.

Let’s be clear: I’ve been proud to have @govpritzker.illinois.gov as our governor, I think he’s been one of the loudest and clearest voices resisting this lawless administration, and I think more than most he has followed that up with action. I’m hoping he can do something here as well
