Maybe it's just because I'm cranky, but I see parallels between owners saying 'customers want to be followed around and harassed' and owners saying 'customers want AI integrated into everything'. As in there's similar huge disconnect between the people giving the orders and the people doing the work

yep. it’s awful. i hate that. and i’m sorry.
i was fired from a retail job for refusing to follow ppl around. it was a small shop. they could see me and i them. i’ve always felt that leaving ppl in peace was the best policy. the owner disagreed.

Every fast food place too. I worked front of house for three months for a burger chain and I'm not even kidding, I got threatened with a disciplinary for not smiling enough. We were told we had to keep smiling even if customers were screaming and throwing things at us.
