An absolute truth: God loves you. No matter if you’re liberal, MAGA, gay, “woke,” fascist, pro-choice, anti-abortion, rich, poor, generous, stingy, merciful, judgmental, gracious, or vindictive. God sent His son to us to redeem us, not to condemn us. God loves you, no matter what.

I was raised in a family that practiced—and still practices—conditional love. You get love and kindness only if you say and do things that don’t ruffle anyone’s feathers. Authenticity is not okay. Pacifying everyone is the only way to receive love. That’s why this is so important to emphasize:

People are fascinating. The same parent who yelled at child me whenever I didn’t say “thank you” or whenever I slammed a door now lives in a house I provide and goes around habitually slamming doors and not saying “thank you.” The role reversal is real.
