The microfiche digitization livestream from the Internet Archive also includes silent films, home movies, and other random things with lofi archive radio playing in the background for your listening pleasure. On a day like today, how cool is that?

NIH cuts have life and death consequences.

How a cancer patient became collateral damage to Trump’s purge of the federal workforce, @carolynyjohnson.bsky.social reports wapo.st/44ntbo4
His custom cancer therapy is in an NIH freezer. He may not get it in time.
The purge of probationary federal workers included skilled lab personnel who would have finalized a customized cell immunotherapy for cancer patients.

Orphaned bear cub cared for by humans dressed up as bears | CNN
Gloves, a fur coat and a bear mask. The outfit sounds like avant-garde fashion, but it’s actually the uniform of caretakers at the San Diego Humane Society, who are raising an orphaned black bear cub.

We're honored to be a Scripps Howard Journalism Awards finalist for "The Year After a Denied Abortion," our story about a woman forced to continue a life-threatening pregnancy following Tennessee's abortion ban.

Read the story (published Feb. 2024):
She Was Denied an Abortion After Roe Fell. This Is a Year in Her Family’s Life.
Tennessee law prohibits women from having abortions in nearly all circumstances. But once the babies are here, the state provides little help. We followed one family as they struggled to make it.

Can we please remember that John Adams literally represented the Redcoats who did the Boston Massacre.

Like, if you’re going to wave the goddamn flag and say that lawyers ought not to represent clients you disagree with or who are allegedly guilty, then you’re just confused about American lawyers.

Other than per capita income, Germany bests the U.S. by every conceivable metric. Quality of life, health care, less crime, less pollution, longer life expectancy, strength of democratic institutions, human rights, rule of law, and yes, even free speech!
"Europe is on the brink of civilizational suicide," US Vice President Vance told Fox News. "Countries don’t control borders, restrict free speech. If Germany takes in millions more incompatible migrants, it’ll destroy itself. America can’t save it."
