How we communicate risk statistics can matter as much as what we communicate.

I was lucky enough to share this conversation with @hal-hershfield.bsky.social and Mark Meredith, founder of Meredith Wealth Planning.

New research from Janek Kretschmer & Paul Smeets: separating donation decisions into two stages (1. how much to give, 2. which charity to support) increases charitable impact.

New study in AMPPS:

Clinical psychologists favour statistically significant results.

(presumably true in all fields, I'd say. Bias against null findings)

Useful albeit unfortunate info for those the psych job market. Stay strong out there
markthornton.bsky.social
We're a month further into the job market - how are things looking? The good news is that the market does seem to have been delayed: ~150 new listings have appeared since my last post. The bad news is that the total is still substantially lower than what it was during the covid dip.

Our reflections from #Metascience25 are now up in our blog, incl. what we learned about #OpenScience from national frameworks, the Metascience Alliance, an IPCC-like proposal and what comes next for evidence-based Open Science policy.

Even if you tell people cognitive biases are good & lead to good outcomes, we still think they have the bias less than others.

Only when we see the bias as very desirable we might think we are = to others on it.

This looks interesting, but I'm not sure it's asking the correct question ("Have we solved the replication crisis?")

I don't think we'll agree on yes-no, not now or ever.

Real question is: are we doing better science now?

And better science must be a perpetual goal. Not a set destination.

How should the behavioral sciences be mainstreamed into public health? How would we know if this goal is achieved?

With the WHO Behavioural Insights Unit, my team has been working on these questions.

Curious what we came up with? Check out the public consultation below

It's absolutely amazing the a PCIRR Stage 2 community endorsed manuscript automatically is accepted in a journal like Royal Society Open Science with no additional peer review needed.

Go PCIRR friendly journals!
