It was farewell to the Howard family as the final episode of BBC 1 drama Howards Way was shown.

It was also farewell to Juke Box Jury as the third (and currently final) version of the show ended on BBC 2.

Howards' Way began on BBC One on 1 September 1985 and sailed off into the sunset on 25 November 1990.

It had run for 6 series totalling 78 episodes.

Juke Box Jury was shown on BBC Television as three different incarnations.

The first time was 1959-67 and was hosted by David Jacobs.

The second version was hosted by Noel Edmonds in 1979.

Jools Holland hosted the final series from 1989-90.

Japanese anime The Littl' Bits debuts in the UK on BBC 2.

The Amazing Adventures of Morph is a stop-motion clay animation television show created by Aardman Animations which ran on BBC 1 from 13 October 1980. 26 animated episodes were created.

The series was a spin-off from the BBC art series Take Hart.

Joining Morph on his Amazing Adventures were Chas, Nailbrush, Grandmorph, Delilah, Gillespie, Folly, Gobbledygook and The Very Small Creatures.

The episodes starred Tony Hart who also narrated the series.

Footage from the show was reused in the 1996 show The Morph Files.

A Morph Ltd production.

Oliver Twist was a 12 part adaptation of Charles Dickens novel that was broadcast on BBC 1 from 13 October to 29 December 1985. Adapted by Alexander Baron.

This version claims to follow the book more closely than any of the other film and television adaptions.

The cast includes Eric Porter, Michael Attwell, Ben Rodska, Amanda Harris, Godfrey James, Frank Middlemass, Lysette Anthony, Pip Donaghy, David Garlick, Nicholas Bond-Owen, David King, Gillian Martell, Edward Burnham, Julian Firth, Miriam Margolyes, Raymond Witch, Terry Molloy, Christian Rodska, Dominic Jephcott, Carys Llewelyn, Christopher Driscoll, Janet Henfrey, David McKail and Scott Funnell.

The Littl' Bits is a Japanese anime television series with 26 episodes. It was first shown in the UK with English voices on BBC 2 from 13 October 1990.

The series describes the adventures of a race of little people who live in a simple village in Foothill Forest. It focuses in particular on a group of children: Lillabit, Willibit, Snagglebit, Chip, and Browniebit. Snagglebit, the spoiled son of the mayor, is enamored of the beautiful Lillabit, but she is best friends with Willibit, the moral role model and main protagonist. Thus, even though they generally get along well, Willibit and Snagglebit often butt heads, especially over Lillabit.

English voices were Sonja Ball, Arthur Grosser, Dean Hagopian, AJ Henderson, Arthur Holden, Rick Jones, Liz MacRae, Walter Massey, Anik Matern, Terrence Scammell, Jane Woods and Rachelle Cano.

The English version was produced by Saban.

He designed the Blue Peter badge. Hart never claimed copyright but the BBC agreed to pay him a penny for every time it's shown on television.

Sky One debuts the US sci-fi series VR.5 with Lori Singer.

Wacaday is a children's television series that ran on ITV breakfast franchise TV-am from 21 October 1985 to December 1992 during school holidays. Over 450 episodes have been made though it is unknown how many were actually made.

The show was hosted by Timmy Mallett.

The format was similar to the Wide Awake Club. It began due to Roland Rat leaving TV-am and going to the BBC.

Masterteam was a television daytime quiz programme that aired on BBC One from 21 October 1985 until 21 December 1987. The programme was hosted by Angela Rippon and was filmed at The Greenwood Theatre which is owned by King's College, London.

3 series totalling 135 episodes were made.

Each game consisted of five rounds in the following order: Team Challenge, Spotlight, In a Spin, Spotlight, and Team Challenge. The team with the higher score won the game and remained on the show. Teams were awarded Bronze, Silver, or Gold Medal status for winning two, three, or four games, any team with four wins retired from the show. At the end of each series, the eight best teams returned for an elimination tournament. These games included an additional round format, It's All Yours.

VR.5 is a 13 part US science-fiction television series first broadcast in the UK on Sky One from 21 October 1995.

The title of the show refers to the degree of immersion the protagonist experiences in virtual reality.

Prior to the events of the series, Sydney Bloom was the daughter of Dr Joseph Bloom, a computer scientist working on developing virtual reality. His wife Nora Bloom, a neurochemist, was also involved. Joseph and his other daughter Samantha, died in a car accident in 1978.

Now in 1995, Sydney accidentally discovers that she can enter an advanced type of virtual reality, where she can interact with other people. Her actions in the virtual world have an effect on the real world. She subsequently agrees to use her abilities to help a mysterious secret organization called the Committee.

The cast includes Lori Singer, Michael Easton, Will Patton, Anthony Head, David McCallum, Louise Fletcher and Tracey Needham.

Channel 4 debuts the soap opera Hollyoaks. Still going strong after 30 years and over 6,600 episodes.

BBC 2 introduced us to Laura Palmer, the victim of a murder in the town of Twin Peaks. Kyle MacLachlan stars as FBI Agent Cooper (pictured).

Hollyoaks is a soap opera which originally began airing on Channel 4 from 23 October 1995. It was created by Phil Redmond, who had previously conceived the soap opera Brookside. At last count there have been over 6,600 episodes broadcast.

Beginning with a cast of 15 characters, it now has 34 regular cast members. The longest-serving actor is Nick Pickard, who has portrayed Tony Hutchinson since the first episode.

Twin Peaks was a surrealist mystery-horror drama television series from the US that was first broadcast on BBC 2 from 23 October 1990.

Set in the fictional Pacific Northwest town of Twin Peaks, the series follows an investigation led by FBI special agent Dale Cooper into the murder of local teenager Laura Palmer.

The cast includes Kyle MacLachlan, Sheryl Lee, Michael Ontkean, Mädchen Amick, Dana Ashbrook, Richard Beymer, Lara Flynn Boyle, Sherilyn Fenn, Warren Frost, Peggy Lipton, James Marshall, Everett McGill, Jack Nance, Ray Wise, Joan Chen and Piper Laurie.

2 series were made in the 1990s with a revival series in 2017.

On 2 November 1936, the BBC Television Service launched from Alexandra Palace, London.

On 2 November 1982, Channel 4 began broadcasting.

On 2 November 1990, it was announced that rival satellite broadcasters BSB and Sky had merged. The company would be known as British Sky Broadcasting.

Over the next few months, 3 of BSB's 5 channels closed and were replaced with others.

Japanese-French animated series Ulysses 31 made it's first UK TV appearance on Children's BBC on 1.

After 3 series and 22 episodes, Up the Elephant and Round the Castle came to an end.

Ulysses 31 is a Japanese-French anime series based on the Greek mythology of Odysseus (known as "Ulixes" or "Ulysses" in Latin), set in the 31st century. The show comprises 26 half-hour episodes that were first broadcast in the UK on BBC 1 as part of their Children's BBC slot.

The series follows the struggles of Ulysses and his crew against the divine entities that rule the universe, the ancient gods from Greek mythology. The Gods of Olympus are angered when Ulysses, commander of the giant spaceship Odyssey, kills the giant Cyclops to save a group of enslaved children, including his son. Zeus sentences Ulysses to travel the universe with his crew frozen until he finds the Kingdom of Hades, at which point his crew will be revived and he will be able to return to Earth.

English voice cast were Matt Birman, Adrian Knight, Anick Faris, Kelly Ricard, Howard Ryshpan and Vlasta Vrána.

A co-production of DIC Audiovisuel and Tokyo Movie Shinsha.

Up the Elephant and Round the Castle is a television sitcom, which aired on ITV from 30 November 1983 to 7 November 1985. 3 series totalling 22 episodes were made.

Jim London is a young lovable rogue who becomes a man of property when a relative dies, leaving him a run-down Victorian property at 17 Railway Terrace in the Elephant and Castle area of south London. He gets into various problems with the police and spends most of his time getting drunk and chasing women.

The cast includes Jim Davidson, John Bardon, Sue Nicholls, Nicholas Day, Brian Hall, Brian Capron, Anita Dobson, Sara Corper and Rosalind Knight.

The show spawned a sequel called Home James! in which ran from 1987 to 1990.
