Has anyone noticed that the Democrat leaders/politicians etc. are out there condemning the shooting of Charlie Kirk, yet we didn’t hear a peep out of ANY of the GOP MAGA CHUDs when Melissa and John Hortman (and their dog) were assassinated.

Decolonizing higher education may seem metaphorical, or even impossible to do, but purepecha scholar Lorena González gives us some substantial ways for this to happen. @quepasahsis.bsky.social

As we celebrate Labor Day, President Trump is rolling back the rights of federal workers to organize unions and collectively bargain.

Eliminating these protections is a violation of workers' free speech rights.

I just signed the Election Rigging Response Act to put Proposition 50 up for a vote on November 4th.

The people of California will have the power to push back against Texas and any other state that obeys Donald Trump's demand to rig the next election.

Journal editors: Please desk reject papers that are obviously not going to be published

I know the peer-review process can generate helpful feedback for grad students. Of course, I'll give that feedback in a kind and constructive way.

But that should have been your job, dear editor!

Managing Multiple Designations
There are two-types of MSIs, mission-based and enrollment-based, with HBCUs and Tribally Controlled Colleges & Universities falling into the first category, and AANAPISIs, HSIs, Predominantly Black Institutions, Alaska Native and Native Hawaiian-Serving Institutions, Native American Serving-Nontribal Institutions, and the new California-specific category of Black-Serving Institutions falling into the latter category of enrollment-based. There are approximately 800 MSIs in 2025, yet this number is growing as more students of color enroll in college. Simultaneously, the number of dual and multiple designated MSIs has grown significantly, with a 46.5% increase in dual designated MSIs from 2017 to 2024. There is a growing need for more leadership and policy changes to address the rise of dual and multiple designated MSIs. Moreover, institutions with dual or multiple designations must engage in deeper, more intentional relationship-building and collaboration across MSI classifications, recognizing shared oppressions and possibilities for collective action. Trump’s deployment of the National Guard in California is not about the protests.

It is about expanding his never-ending grasp for more power. It is about moving this country toward authoritarianism.

All Americans must stand together against this gross abuse of power.
