BREAKING: Clearview have been told that - *shockingly* - the UK GDPR applies to their indefensible business of selling your face to foreign law enforcement agencies, after PI intervened in a recent legal case.

Reporter's notebook: I actually began working on this story shortly after footage of the incident showed up last month.

But by the time I finally got ahold of folks, the story grew: 2 *other* faith leaders I spoke with *also* reported being shot w/pepper balls while protesting this ICE facility.

Gonna be thinking about this lede for a minute.
(RNS) — Last month, the Rev. David Black stood in front of a Chicago-area U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility and spread his arms wide. Adorned in all black and wearing a clerical collar, the pastor looked up at a group of masked, heavily armed ICE agents on the roof and began to pray.

“I invited them to repentance,” Black, a minister in the Presbyterian Church (USA), said in an interview. “I basically offered an altar call. I invited them to come and receive that salvation, and be part of the kingdom that is coming.”

But when Black began to lower his arms a few seconds later, the agents responded to his spiritual plea by firing pepper balls, or chemical agents that cause eye irritation and respiratory distress, video footage shows. One struck Black in the head, exploding into a puff of white pepper smoke and forcing him to his knees. Fellow demonstrators rushed to his aid, and as the pastor rubbed his face in pain, the agents continued to fire.

“We could hear them laughing,” Black said.

NEW: Since October 2023, the IDF Spokesperson's Unit has released dozens of 3D animations illustrating alleged Hamas, Hezbollah, and Iranian sites

The style is now unmistakable: satellite zoom-ins, black & white wireframes, and red-textured houses - a new visual language of war

This from @marietjeschaake.bsky.social's excellent book "The Tech Coup" remains an evergreen statement.
"Ultimately, the highest goal of democratic governments is not, and should not be, innovation. Rather, it is about making sure that various trade-offs, between innovation and safety, digitization and nondiscrimination, are managed in line with the rule of law. The goal is to prevent companies from moving fast and breaking things." - The Tech Coup by Marietje Schaake

💥🔎🇷🇺 Our analysis reveals the scale of Russia’s massive propaganda offensive in Moldova: in 3 weeks, 9,900 TikTok videos were published and generated over 93 million views, created with artificial intelligence. Yet despite Moscow’s efforts, the pro-European PAS secured 50.2% in the Sept 28 election.

We shouldn’t have to say this in 2025: hunting human beings is illegal––like many of Frontex’s activities, from cooperating with the Hellenic Coastguard to sharing the location of migrant boats with Libya, for which we have taken the agency to Court.

One of the more incredible stories out of LA this year has been how a taco review blog became the best on-the-ground coverage of ICE raids in the city.

They do a dispatch every day, follow-up on the kidnapped people (which almost no media outlet has done), and fact-check government claims.

Truly struggling how to feel about this tbh, but I'm quite sure this won't play out well for the Russian cause in the long term. This stuff will flood the closed environment that is the Russian internet and social media as more people share memories of their lost loved ones

"In Russia, artificial intelligence is being used to give the deceased a haunting kind of second life. Social media is rife with short videos of relatives saying goodbye to their dead children, spouses and parents who are resurrected for some 60 seconds..."
AI lets Russian war widows see their soldier husbands one more time
A trend has emerged in Russia of using artificial intelligence to create video memorials of the dead, often soldiers, giving a final farewell to their wives and children.

Literally any day now, there will be real footage of some atrocity, illegality, or gaffe by a state actor. The government will claim it is fake AI generated video. One third of the country will believe the government, one third will believe the video, and one third will not believe anyone again.
