Even though Carmen de Lavallade CO-FOUNDED the dance company with Alvin Ailey and was listed first on the bill in the article, they don't mention her at all.

They met as young dancers and founded the company together. This is how Black women's contributions get erased.

I’m doing two personal fundraisers and this is the other one. If you can help, please do.
My family is still fundraising to keep a roof over our heads. So many have already helped us so much. Saving us in November, then again this month. We're moving towards stability, but still need help. Thank you for those who have and those who will donate.

This is a really good, comprehensive look at how 2nd Ave is STILL getting built back, 5 years after that guy blew up his RV in the street and the media mostly just moved on a few days later.

(also, the headline says “unexplained”, but if you read all the way to the end……it’s basically explained)

This is *infuriating* - basically all the major grocery retailers (Target, Walmart, Kroger, Albertsons, Shaws, Safeway, Acme, and more) had potentially contaminated formula out for sale *well* after the FDA recall. This isn’t a little oops at a single store; this is widespread negligence.
FDA warns Target, Walmart for selling baby formula linked to botulism
The FDA also said Kroger and Albertsons had failed to comply with a recall of baby formula linked to an ongoing infant botulism outbreak.

As long as men are in charge of admissions, there will never be a shortage of men on campuses. Merit has never stopped a man from giving another man an opportunity over a woman.

Ending DEI practices in college admissions will expose an uncomfortable truth. Women now outperform men academically.

If universities stop trying to gender balance incoming classes but instead admit based on merit, they’ll reject men at higher rates than they do today.
Trump’s attack on DEI may hurt college men, particularly White men
The Trump administration’s ban on diversity, equity and inclusion also targets gender. The ban may impact gender balancing practices that often benefit college men.

There are a number of reasons why I decided to pursue sociology in college/grad school rather than economics which also interested me—a lot of it is realizing how much math I’d have to be able to do—but the bulk of them amount to the realization that “oh, none of this is sufficiently explanatory”

While I’ve seen a number of reports emphasizing record spending on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, there’s an interesting detail. Salesforce reports their data shows prices are up 7% year over year while orders are down 1%.

So the record spending is due to inflation not increased buying.

Amazon AI did this with resumes 10+ years ago. It was trained on data from a biased world, and assumed that the trends of lower hiring, promotions, and job length meant women and POC are worse at the job. So it stopped hiring them and had to be abandoned. Doing this with faces feels too on-the-nose.
