Both the Lucy Connolly and the Epping hotel cases have now taken on a political-media existence of their own, unconnected with what actually happened in court.

It doesn't matter there were published sentencing remarks in one and a judge-prepared summary in the other.

People want stories instead.

From a constitutionalist perspective the mad thing is that Congress could stop this at a stroke.

The presidency only has tariff-setting powers as provided for by Congress. And Congress can take those powers away.

But the Republicans in Congress would rather this happen than to do something.
