Generally a nerd about rocks, old critters, extant critters, and building worlds for fun and story. 10/10 would adopt an owlbear cub. Zombie apocalypse skills are hand-sewing and gardening.

I know this sentiment is well shared, but every once in a while I think about how beautifully powerful and inspiring these paintings are.

Same. Please know that I’m very mad about a very many things. My silence on any one topic or event doesn’t mean I don’t care.
the reason i don't post as much about politics as i used to is mostly just that i've run out of things to say that can be said in public

I've been in hibernation mode while the seasonal troll migration comes through - they do travel in herds!

Also I apologize if you found me by way of the Kaladin fanart, I vacation on Roshar but I live in the fossil record most of the time. Worldbuilding is my Thing and that includes Earth's past

Insert Yule-tyrannus puns here!

Dinosaurs + wintery themes are a favorite of mine, as ya'll know. Starting off the season with Valor and a wreath. 🎄

I posted a WIP of this ludicrous animal a couple of days ago. I’m calling it finished for now. #SciArt

Currently thinking about how elephants, some of the most imposing animals on earth, tend to be afraid of mice.

Maybe hope is a mouse.

Boosting Kaladin while I attempt brain wrangling
Well, that was unexpected. First #fanart for anything that I've done in a While. Because sometimes I think of a beat-down, book one Kaladin Stormblessed picking up that spear and remembering who he used to be, and I feel a little better, somehow.
Still rusty, still sketchy, maybe making progress.

Current mood: this little guy that lives in the big misty temperate rainforests of the northwest in the world I'm writing in. He's not exactly a lemur, but did descend from Eocene primates that got introduced with a landmass collision

Currently trying to juggle Writing Decisions.
Do I censor the books I'm currently working on because I'm Afraid, or do I pivot to a wild, paleolithic, hand-axe-and-sorcery first-contact/survival thing that's been stewing for a few years?
The temptation is strong to do the latter

Chop wood, carry water.
It's a little zen, a little stoic, and my whole family's mantra right now. When you don't know what to do next, do the routine things - "chop wood, carry water." Take your meds, hydrate, get grounded, feed yourself and your pets.
Chop wood, carry water.

Ok. Let's talk about "Do not obey in advance." I have been recommending Snyder's On Tyranny to many, many people since it came out. I am planning to teach it shortly, too. It's a great book. It is very timely. But it's not perfect.

Almost hard to believe that this was a real animal. But it was, it soared through our skies a hundred million years ago, and it might have looked a little like this.
An illustration I worked on a couple of years ago, and which also features on the cover of my book Ex|Terra.

Today's coping strategy involves waffling between throwing myself into writing until time ceases to exist and getting distracted by bird ID because the tree outside my window is a popular spot. So far, I think it's going well!

Referenced a bunch of hawks and sketched some wing studies after yesterday's Write. Clothing is... meh, colors need work. And there's a lot about the wing shapes that I'm not super happy with, but that's what I get for building wings out of early synapsid sails instead of like... limbs.

Day 2 of blowing life into these novel embers and I've finally broken the writer's block that's been stuck to me for like two months solid. My protagonist met a snake and this was the highlight of my day.
