This is concerning, but looking at the question, shouldn’t the alternative be “autocracy” or “dictatorship” (depending on what you’re trying to understand). In this case probably autocracy.
Do people really understand what democracy really means?

Trust in democracy is falling in under-45s.
Growing numbers think voting doesn't matter. And a leader "who doesn't have to bother with elections" would be a better system of governance.
This should seriously concern all in government.
