Just trying to be good to this beautiful Earth and its creatures.
I heartily believe George is correct and I'm seeing the problem he points to every day.
How many times do we need to point this out?
By appeasing the far right, you do not weaken it. You strengthen it.
While weakening your own position.
There's a vast amount of academic research showing this.
But Labour will not listen.

[FOUNDER'S BRIEF - @rhettayersbutler.bsky.social]

By some estimates, species are vanishing at up to a thousand times the natural background rate. Yet a new study in Proceedings of the Royal Society B suggests the picture is more complex. Extinctions may have peaked a century ago—and declined since.
A slowdown, not salvation: what new extinction data reveal about the state of life on Earth

Preparing to teach I Live in Fear tomorrow by watching this 1956 documentary about the hibakusha (survivors of the bomb). I highly recommend it. It's beautiful and disturbing. Wish I could watch The World is Terrified: The Reality of the “Ashes of Death” (1957) too, but unfortunately I can't find it

This is why we fund scientists to study things like oyster slobber even if you don’t think it sounds important
⚠️ Chinese researchers have invented bone glue that mimics how oysters stick to surfaces underwater.

The adhesive can reportedly repair orthopedic fractures in 2-3 minutes, even in blood-rich environments, and is bioabsorbable.

I genuinely don't know what I think until I can write it down. That's how important the process is.
What is literally the point of putting something like that out as the basis of scholarly analysis?

The first thing I learned about academic writing is that everything that's on the page has to take a detour through your mind. You're in charge of making sense of it. That's the thing. That's the job.
