Todd Tyrtle is NOT HERE
@gooutsidetoday.com
Hey all, the lack of decent CWs, filters or unactionable doom posts (I get it, we're not all here for the same reasons) has me not checking this site anymore. To get in touch, find me at https://zirk.us/@toddtyrtle where I can better curate my feed.
When I first went on the Internet in the late 80s/90s it felt like a choice to go somewhere different where discourse was more interesting and priorities were different. The rest of the world hadn't found it yet. But the ppl who I came here for are still here. We just have to choose to find them.

Happy to do it. I felt the same way reading it. It's a reminder that much of the Internet we loved is still there but the crappy part is just louder and more popular so often we default to it.

I have kept my Wordpress blog up for a while but as part of our 2025 divestment from the US, moved to a self-hosted instance in Canada.

Not sure if you saw this post yesterday but it's a great discussion of the subject. Of all my outlets I get the most positivity from blogging.

So this post about the alternative to just sitting and tolerating the crappiness of the Internet as it is today really resonated. (3/3)

Nothing made the fact that my goals and those of social media diverged than the day my one post got over 18K views on TikTok. I thought I wanted views and popularity but then I saw what it took and who I had to "invite" in to do it and it was awful! (2/3)

Great idea - I have a few of those along with an Amazon echo sitting in a box with no good use for them. I do wonder, though, if the switch just turns off the response, not the listening in the same way that "Incognito mode" still tracks what you do in Chrome
Google collected data from people using 'incognito mode' for years
A number of people felt they were misled and filed a complaint. Now, the court ruled that the retained data must be destroyed.

I grew up in Vermont where we had salt reductions for the environment so sand was *very* much the default on the roads. I still remember the indicator of a really bad ice storm being when the sand trucks would be going up our road in *reverse*!

That's wild! I knew Toronto's weather was often very different, but here it's only -8. That seems like a huge difference for the relatively short distance between us.

Accurate video of me every year for a while now. Wake up, wonder "What are all of those fireworks", remember it's the new year and then go back to sleep.

The exception was Y2K when we lived in a yurt in the woods miles from nowhere. Heard fireworks and wondered: "*Did* the world end?!?"
