Thanks to perseverance and people power, offshore wind went from a niche idea to the backbone of the UK power grid.

In the 25 years since the Blyth wind farm was built, the UK’s electricity has gone from being 74% fossil fuels in 2000, to 51% renewables in 2024.

But this one measure isn’t enough as 4.5 million children and 14.2 million people overall are living in poverty in the UK. The Government must go further and make poverty eradication its priority. Poverty is a political choice.
