I didn't watch the trailer. I didn't even know who was in it (except Teyana - I found that out a couple days before). I did see two people say it was bad and one person be on the fence (while invoking Assata 😬). I saw it because there were few options at the drive-in. Worst movie experience ever.

I saw One Battle After Another and did not enjoy it. I am clearly the outlier but I thought the sexual politics of the film were bad. The representation of Black women revolutionaries was painful and I think the fixation on interracial sex and a mixed race character is a hackneyed trope.

Something I've been thinking on lately is the way memory and cultural workers can hide behind the radical themes represented in the work they preserve or platform without being clear about their politics or being willing to get in the fight. I'm glad SJP is making folks face this contradiction.
