Oh, hey, @pressgazette.co.uk in the UK wrote about what we're doing @sfgate.com.

"Rather than trying to cover the entire state from San Francisco, SFGATE has placed reporters and editors directly in the places it’s writing about. Half the newsroom is remote."

How SFGATE is making local news pay and filling California's news gaps
SFGATE has the largest audience of any purely local news site in the US.

If we really want to solve male loneliness, we should require every male to join a local rec league basketball team, and then get all of the males on that team into a text group.

Problem immediately solved.

"Maybe you thought the man behind the Blinking White Guy meme was a young Cary Elwes or an unknown actor from a stock video clip, but all along, he has walked among us right here in San Francisco."

"Can there be a stupid thing we do smartly? Can there be a smart thing we do stupidly? Can we basically give people nutrition while also making them feel like they’re not being fed vegetables? That’s the filter."

Thank you @amandabartlett.bsky.social and @sfgate.com for this wonderful piece about my recently published research on San Francisco #coyotes. Read it to learn more about how studying the diet of urban animals can help us learn to better coexist with them 🐾

What's killing coyotes in San Francisco?

6/ At a time when news media continues to shrink, America’s national parks are seeing record-breaking crowds. These pristine and imperiled places deserve a news organization that can keep up.

5/ What was an 21-person outfit in 2019 will have almost tripled in 2025 — this year, we have 60 journalists in 23 different cities and four different states, planting our journalism flag in a massive geographic footprint that, frankly, needs it.

4/ We’ve expanded to cover the entire state over the past six years, added a SoCal bureau and hired a host of talented journalists based in Calif. news deserts hurting for more good journalism (plus had ZERO LAYOFFS during that entire span).

More on that: www.sfgate.com/news/article...
Why SFGATE is expanding way beyond San Francisco
We now have journalists in 20 cities covering Calif. top to bottom, coast to Sierra.

3/ That kind of thoughtful expansion is at the core of what we’re trying to do here. Since separating from
the @sfchronicle.com in 2019, SFGATE has become the largest news site on the entire West Coast, passing the LA Times in July 2024 despite having 1/5th the number of journalists on staff.

2/ They'll not only tackle ambitious journalism about the parks, but they'll actually be based in the communities most tied to the ones they cover — we're not going to hire a CA journalist to cover Zion National Park.

We're going to hire someone in Utah.

1/ The new National Parks Contributing Editor covering the Southwest needs to have a deep understanding of the region's most loved parks and the ability to tell stories that matter to both people who live there and people who visit.
