Danielle Smith tried to sell her federal-Alberta energy deal to the UCP convention crowd: tepid applause.
She told them that this proved Canada can work well for Alberta’s interests: loud boos.

This ain’t a base that wants Smith to work with a Liberal PM on a better industrial carbon tax.
November 28, 2025 at 10:18 PM
This would be very unsurprising but a good turn if it's the case. A bad piece of legislation gets canned and the UCP wears the hypocrisy.
From the DM’s…

A very reliable source tells us that Danielle Smith with be recalling recall with new legislation early next week.

Right after the UCP AGM.

Another Smith bait and switch.

Sixty children have died in the care of this government over the last year.

We cannot ignore the needs of some of the most vulnerable people in our community, and the UCP must do everything in their power to ensure these kids have the support they need.

This is the correct take I think. AB is a perpetual grievance machine on the right and in the oil patch. TMX didn’t satisfy them. The 4D-Chess of impossible-to-build pipeline won’t satisfy them.
8/8 If Maher is right, the pipeline either dies—giving Danielle Smith a new grievance—or is pushed through in a way that is toxic to Carney's coalition.

Either way, the formidable Indigenous people of northern BC cannot be ignored.

Stephen Maher: Mark Carney’s in a bigger mess than he thinks with this pipeline
Before the ink on the agreement has had time to dry, there are questions around the ability of Carney and his colleagues to get it built

All forms? Unless it’s driving some sort of change to Alberta’s renewables chokehold, that’s just not true.
Today’s MOU is a win for Calgary, Alberta, and Canada. It supports investment and new export routes while recognizing energy in all its forms — oil and gas, renewables, hydrogen, and more. Grateful for the PM and Premier’s cooperation. Full statement: #yyccc

Unless this coming with changes to the renewable industry in Alberta, count me unenthused.
In the face of global trade shifts and uncertainty, we’re working to build a stronger, more sustainable, more competitive, and more independent economy.

Canada’s MOU with Alberta will ensure we can advance that mission together.

As a Canadian, the idea that the "transition" in a major city needs to take more than a week, and that's not publicly funded, is bizzare.
The leaves are changing and so is City Hall.

This is a nuts story. An AI chatbot and image platform left millions of images exposed. They show what people are actually using the AI for: taking random women's yearbook, graduation, and social media photos and making super realistic hardcore porn with them

@antihate.ca is one my regular monthly donations. Their work, not just investigating neo-Nazis, but toolkits for activists, are essential for antifascist organizing in Canada.
You might remember the B.C. white nationalist conference I covered a few months back, Exiles of the Golden Age.

Well, @antihate.ca just identified 18 attendees -- and CBC got two more.

Naturally, these dudes have been crashing out.

So I gathered some favourites for your viewing pleasure:

When you learn about workplace news from Bluesky
Mark Carney has announced the Crawford Nickel mine near Timmins will be one of his significant projects.
I pushed the previous government to take this project up.
The mine has access to infrastructure, roads, workforce, hydro.
This will be way less problematic than Ring of Fire.

Problem is nat gas turbines don’t deploy as fast as solar and batteries, and neither solve the regulatory bottlenecks at the AESO and the AUC.
8/13 But the "bring your own power" model has a critical flaw.

"Behind-the-fence generation sounds independent, but every one of those facilities still depends on the grid," Bayley said, noting the need for backup power and stability.

Most of the extra power would have to come from #NaturalGas.

Huge scoop from Ed, who had several years of financial reports leaked to him. OpenAI has been over-reporting their revenue. The company is even less profitable than we knew.
Exclusive: Based on documents viewed by this newsletter, OpenAI spent over $12.4 billion on inference from 2024 to September 2025. As part of its Microsoft revenue share, it sent $493.8m in 2024/$865.8m Jan-Sep 2025, implying lower revenues than previously reported.

Teachers and unions were first (Bill 2).

Trans Albertans are next (Bill 9).

The UCP's 2025 AGM Resolutions reveal a much longer list of folks whose rights are at risk from the party's use of the notwithstanding clause.

I feel attacked.
It's impressive how contemporary projects' budgeting practices in Canada are made of very thin actual analytical estimates based on quantities and unit prices on top of which there is an entire enormous castle of random percentages of percentages of percentages which are suspiciously multiples of 5.
