Sean Jordan | Sharing Great Games You Probably Never Played!

There are tons of amazing video games that have been forgotten, overlooked or which never found an audience. I'm a researcher who's going through them and finding the Greatest Games You (Probably) Never Played!

Website: https://greatestgames.substack.com
It was one of the many great releases from 2025 that a lot of people missed because there were so many other incredible games.

I included it in this list a little while back. (I made a few other lists just like it with other overlooked titles!)
I was looking over a list of some of the best games from 2025 and realizing that there are quite a few that have gotten overlooked despite their quality.

Here are 10 worth checking out!

DISCLAIMER: I have not played all of these! I know about some of them from reviews, videos or streams

It definitely looks like a game I may go, "huh, that was an hour of my life I'd like back."

But I'm still intrigued!

Hang in there! Hope all's going well and it's just a bad day.

Doom and Quake are two of the most valuable games I've ever played in terms of their longevity thanks to their extendibility and mod communities.

But I would put them on the same level of enjoyment as Metal Gear Solid, a game I finished over a long weekend but replayed again and again.

There are games I've poured hundreds of hours into because they have the gameplay needed to make that fun.

There are also games that are just a few hours long that are among my favorites because the experience was so incredible.

Value in gaming isn't length. It's truly about overall enjoyment.

Remember that arcade games used to cost a quarter for an experience that'd end in just a few minutes for most people, and even longer ones were done in 30-60 minutes.

And many value-priced computer games and a lot of console games only took a few hours to conquer.

Gaming's my hobby, so unless I'm doing something that costs me actual money to produce (like a book), I'm happy to keep churning out free stuff for the fun of it.

All I ask is that if you enjoy it, you share it with others!

*Not a diss on those with Patreon/KoFi/paid Substack - we all gotta eat!

I agree. My kids wanted it for Pokemon ZA, and it is indeed better on the Switch 2, but $500 better? Not really.

DK Bananza and Kirby Air Riders took them no time to clear. And my son declined to play Metroid Prime 4.

My daughter wants to get Splatoon Raiders, so maybe that'll be worth it!

One thing that the early comic creators had was a grounding in classical literature. I'm not sure that's as true for contemporary writers.

Comparing the relationship of Steve Rogers / Bucky Barnes to Achilles / Patrocohlus makes more sense in the golden age comics than the modern era.

It's interesting.

If you enjoy Greek mythology and want to see a comparative analysis of Achilles to Captain America, Penthesilea to Wonder Woman and Odysseus to Iron Man, this book will scratch that itch!

I do think it helps to know the broad strokes of the myths + comics ahead of time, though.
