Maybe it's not the full answer, but certainly for young people "brat summer" was stylizing the gap between who Harris was and who she could be (similar to Dark Brandon) and inviting her to step into the latter mold, and she read it as simple excitement+loyalty & fully took those voters for granted.

Why is this kind of media so significant when it's the online right and so insignificant when it's the online left?
It seems to me that a lot of left/progressive cultural politics have been rehearsing conditional (rather than unconditional) support, and Harris's triangulation read as inauthentic.
