Like I said, I mostly agree with you. I understand some of it is injury related, but I hate changing the system every game. I don't understand the defensive plan against set pieces, and I hate the 5 striker formations. A manager also bears significant responsibility for team mentality imho.

With the usual small-sample-size caveat, I was surprised by some of the early season data. I was expecting to see problems in build-up play but ... not so much. It's really pretty simple. A slight decrease in SCA and a big decrease in xG. We need better shots.

Louis counters this critique by examining multiple different xG/D differences to relatively compelling effect. The bigger issues, as the author notes, is the use of a single gamma distribution and the assumption of a fixed xG/xGA. It's an interesting, if not conclusive, result.
