I disagree with Will here, obviously, and the primary reason is someone in need got to use one of those 5,600 tampons. Win or lose, lives got easier.

With how many times they make you backtrack to Volt Forge for upgrades you need to progress through the story, you'd think they would make it better to explore or faster to get from point A to point B.
